Newquay Camping & Leisure is a family-owned camping retailer rooted in the heart of Cornwall. What began as a traditional bricks-and-mortar business is now an established multichannel retailer supplying tents, awnings, accessories and outdoor equipment to customers across the UK. The brand is built on a passion for the outdoors, product expertise and a commitment to enhancing family holidays with high-quality gear and attentive service.

With growing online demand and competition intensifying from established outdoor retailers, Newquay Camping & Leisure recognised the need for a more strategic and data-led approach to paid media and email marketing. They partnered with Brave to evolve their digital footprint and support a stronger shift towards sustainable online growth.

The Brief

Newquay Camping & Leisure approached Brave with a clear goal: drive online sales through Google Ads and Email Marketing, while establishing the foundations for smarter, long-term digital performance.

The challenge was equally clear. Their Google Ads account relied almost entirely on a single Performance Max campaign, and their Klaviyo account had never sent a campaign email. Both channels had significant untapped potential and both needed structure, relevance and consistency to deliver meaningful impact.

Our objective was to step in as a strategic partner, refining their existing set-up, unlocking new revenue opportunities and building a seamless, omni-channel customer experience.

Understanding the Customer at Every Touchpoint

Before building the strategy, we conducted a full audit across Google Ads, Email and CRO. The findings highlighted immediate opportunities, performance gaps and structural issues holding the business back.

  • Google Ads: High Value, Low Structure

Our audit revealed that although Performance Max was delivering strong ROAS, the account lacked segmentation and control. Missing brand campaigns, missing category campaigns, no negative keywords and inconsistent tracking meant Newquay was leaving revenue and data clarity on the table.

    Key insights included:

    - Over-reliance on one PMAX campaign
    - No brand search campaigns
    - No remarketing structure
    - All conversion actions marked as “primary”, creating unclear attribution
    - Enhanced conversions not enabled
    - Keyword and ad copy relevance inconsistencies

Despite these issues, PMAX results indicated strong demand and clear potential. We simply needed to build the structure to unlock it.

  • Email Marketing: Untouched Opportunity

Klaviyo presented a major opportunity: Newquay had never sent a single campaign email. This negatively affected sender reputation, subscriber engagement and revenue potential.

    We also identified:

    - Missing DMARC policy and authentication issues
    - Inconsistent or underperforming flows
    - High unsubscribe rates
    - Fair open rates but low conversion rates across flows
    - No segmentation strategy or preference management

The brand had a sizeable list, just not an active one. With structure, compliance and consistent sending, email could become a genuine revenue driver.

Our Strategy

With the audits complete, we built a strategy anchored in Brave’s core values: customer-obsessed, performance-driven and focused on what moves the needle.

Our approach centred on two key pillars:

1. Google Ads: Building a Scalable, High-Performing Account

We transformed a single-campaign setup into a structured, scalable and high-performing Google Ads account built for long-term growth. The first stage focused on rebuilding the foundations, introducing brand search activity, adding category-led campaigns and implementing enhanced conversions to give the account the clarity it had been missing. We also aligned attribution models, introduced negative keyword controls, improved product feed relevancy and strengthened Performance Max with new creative assets. This created a cleaner, more strategic environment that allowed us to optimise with accuracy and unlock new layers of control.

With the structure in place, we moved into performance optimisation and growth. This meant refining ad copy to reflect clearer customer intent, directing users to the most relevant landing pages, diversifying asset groups and launching dynamic remarketing to increase relevance throughout the journey. We enhanced segmentation, monitored search terms closely and prioritised high-value keyword clusters, reallocating budget in real time as demand shifted. By the time peak season arrived, the account had evolved into a joined-up, insight-driven ecosystem. One capable of scaling efficiently and converting consistently across high-performing product categories.

2. Email Marketing: Reviving Klaviyo Into a Revenue Channel

We began by repairing the technical foundations that were limiting Newquay’s ability to reach inboxes reliably. This meant implementing DMARC, fixing authentication issues, aligning the sending domain and stabilising sending behaviour so email providers could recognise the brand as a trustworthy sender. With deliverability and compliance under control, we could finally shift our focus toward engagement and revenue generation rather than firefighting technical risks.

Once the groundwork was secure, we revitalised Klaviyo into a meaningful revenue channel. We rebuilt key flows with clearer layouts, stronger CTAs, improved triggers and added personalisation to create relevance at every stage of the customer journey. Frequency, exclusions and preference controls were refined to reduce unsubscribe rates and protect long-term list health. With flows performing more efficiently, we introduced a regular campaign rhythm, bringing in monthly product stories, seasonal peaks, high-intent content and timely touchpoints such as back-in-stock updates and bestseller highlights. This consistency nurtured customer trust, improved engagement and turned email into a dependable driver of revenue rather than an overlooked channel.
