The Future of Google Search in 2024

Google Bard is the search engine’s AI language model and will become the biggest game-changer in the company’s 25-year history. Other language models are already chipping away at the site’s internet dominance; ChatGPT’s capability to conduct research and Bing’s early adoption of the language model to revitalise the search service means the future is set to come as soon as 2024. And it looks to be the most drastic reconfiguring of how we use the internet at large since the World Wide Web began.

Aside from AI implementation, Google’s radical changes to its platform include more personalisation and ads but have kept quiet on those fronts. Bard itself says that it exists to “maintain dominance of the search market”, but what does that mean for eCommerce sites?

We go into more detail about where we, as a digital marketing agency with over two decades of experience, believe Google will take eCommerce, and what you should consider now to hit the ground running when the looming change is put in place.

A Simplified Experience

On a macro level, the future of Google search looks to be a more simplified one. Google recognises that 99% of people don’t go past page one of search results and that its current iteration can be as jumbled and disjointed as iTunes before Apple put that application to rest. Thus, they will be looking to make the presentation of search results far more simplified, making the race for page one results all the more competitive.

Long-Tail Keywords Will Become More Vital

In the immediate results-driven world of eCommerce content marketing, long-tail keywords are often neglected for not yielding more traffic straight away. However, if Google implements search through Bard in a similar way to ChatGPT’s chatbox, long-tail keywords will make a greater impact.

Creating content that answers specific questions effectively will soon be a much more valuable way of generating traffic, trust and conversions from your target audience. As such, look to start creating that content soon and you’ll be lightyears ahead of the competition.

Providing Trustworthy Content

With Google Bard integration, the search engine must work twice as hard to combat unverified and untrustworthy content that could put off users. Seeing this, the platform will likely rely even more heavily on its E-E-A-T algorithm, which recently expanded from E-A-T.

This algorithm stands for the core tenets of what Google expects from quality content – Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness. Google desires content that targets a specific audience, which will then generate website visits due to the trust individuals have in the source. No longer will sites be rewarded for grabbing high-volume keywords to claw higher up the Google rankings; now you need to provide regular content that targets specialised subjects so that you become the number one figurehead for one single topic.

Additionally, create an author profile for your blogs with relevant credentials and a detailed biography. Links to social media pages will also aid in showing Google that the author has experience and expertise in the subject. Even so, digital and content marketing agencies continue to operate, as content can be created and attributed to the expert.
